We are a group of eight girls that have been best friends since middle school, some even longer than that. We are from a small town in Massachusetts, and we have all lived there our entire lives. We wanted to start this blog documenting our travels and stories in honor of our friend, Janelle Lavender Tobin, that recently passed away. To show everyone how much of an impact she had on our lives, and will continue to in the future.
Janelle was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer that is mostly found in children and adolescents, in April of 2018. She decided that day that she was going to fight this awful disease with everything she had, and that is exactly what she did. Her strength was unbelievable to witness. With each round of chemo, surgery, or radiation Janelle always had a smile on her face and stayed positive no matter what. She fought hard for seven months but unfortunately passed away on November 24, 2018, in her home surrounded by her family.
Those who knew her would describe her as someone who shines and radiates positivity no matter the occasion. Her laughter was contagious as well as her smile. She would always light up any room she walked into, and could make friends wherever she went.
She had a blog of her own called climbingontrees.com which she named from one of her favorite songs by Passenger, Anywhere. She has many posts about her amazing journey when she studied abroad in Amsterdam, as well as posting about her fight with cancer. This is how we chose our name, “Anywhere With You.” The lyrics mention this phrase throughout the song, and we felt as though it embodied what we want this blog to be about: carrying Janelle with us wherever we go.
